10 Tips to Buy Green   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: luxproperty
With the environment in the shape it is, it’s important we all start doing our part to help and make things better. There are already many ways we may do so by saving water, separating our rubbish into separate bins, etcetera and something else you can do to help is to buy green.
One benefit to having a green home is lower utility and water bills. You also have healthier indoor air quality. Some indoor materials - like bamboo - are easier to clean. In some places you may even receive tax benefits.
Here are some tips to help you buy green:
• Use bamboo flooring in your house. It renews itself every 3 to 5 years.
• Salvaged lumber can be used to build walls or in roof construction, this helps decrease deforestation.
• Run your house on solar energy.
• Install insulated and large windows that allow more natural lighting. The insulation protects you from the sun’s rays.
• Buy a smaller house. You use less energy in a smaller house, to heat and light it, and the more money you will save when your utility bill comes around.
• Another thing that helps is location. Choose your location wisely so you spend less time in the car and perhaps more time on the bicycle.
• A great natural climate controller is the tree. So if possible, buy a house that has foliage on the property.
• How about a garden? Where you can plant and grow your own organic vegetables.
• Use ceiling fans in summer and winter. If you reverse the direction of the blades, you will have warm air, thus heating the room.
• Ensure that your faucets and plumbing system are leak free. Leaks can cause up to more than 10 gallons of wasted water every week.
Live green, live clean, live happily!
