Have you ever wished that you didn’t have to do any housework? After all, keeping up with so many different areas and tasks is a lot of work, and indeed a full time job in most cases. You may have to keep up with the laundry, vacuum the floors, and even cook a meal. Or maybe you wish that you didn’t have to go to the trouble of setting up an audio system for an event or special dinner. This can produce a lot of anxiety and stress that is many times hard to deal with. So what should you do? Well, there may soon an excellent solution to that problem, and it is called a “smart home”. But what on Earth does that even mean?
A smart house, sometimes referred to as a digital house, is a house that has many of its functions and parts automated and hooked up to a centralized data processor or computer. This may sound like a hyperbole or like a science fiction story, but rest assured: the reality is that this principle exists and is being developed. At the moment, the developers have started with the small steps, like wiring all the devices of one home into a central server, or constructing a remote control that accesses all the electronic appliances. Now, while this is an extremely convenient little device, it isn’t quite as advanced as it will be in the future.
Some of the devices that researchers are working on now are truly astounding. One of them is a completely autonomous laundry system. In your laundry room, there will be a washing machine that, with a simple click of a button on a remote, will start an entire pre-programmed cycle to wash your clothes. With the click of another button, the machine will transfer the clothes over to the dryer. Though these systems are not actualised yet, they are in development.
